Beach Cleanup !
Keeping Kappalady lagoon plastic free

2022 has been the year where Kappalady started getting plastic free! Thanks to the funds raised by #cleanmybeach, an NGO started by two german nature lovers, Fabian & Philipp. Their idea is to organise beach clean-ups and provide education to the local communities to make people sensitive to the problem of plastic in the ocean and the coasts. They finance those clean-ups by donations, collected mostly in Germany.

Several beach clean ups were organised. A team of locals, Wind Blend staff and enthusiastic volunteers armed themselves with gloves, trash bags, and good vibes to tackle the plastic waste on their beautiful Kappalady beach and the lagoon.

The team worked tirelessly, picking up every single piece they could find. By the end of the day, 190 trash bags of plastic waste were collected, each weighing more than 10 kilos, making a tremendous impact on the health of the local ecosystem. Everyone was rewarded by some fresh coconut from Irfans hut!

The cleanup wasn't just about removing plastic waste. #cleanmybeach also talked to beachgoers, kitesurfers and village kids, spreading awareness about the importance of reducing plastic use and properly disposing of plastic waste.

In August 2022 #cleanmybeach and Wind Blend installed the first two waste barrels for volunteers and locals to get rid of their collected plastic. One of them is right at the beginning of the lagoon, the other one on the street between Wind Blend and the lagoon. They are emptied every two weeks.

The teams' energy and dedication were truly inspiring, showing that every action counts, no matter how small. Let's follow their lead and take action to protect our oceans. Whether it's picking up a piece of plastic on a beach or advocating for policy change, every effort counts. Let's create a world where our oceans are healthy and thriving. Meanwhile, at Wind Blend we continue to focus on our mission to make Kappalady village plastic free and organise regular beach and village clean up sessions. Come join us !
